Finding Strength Through Integrative Care

I became a patient at the Integrated Health Clinic (IHC) when I was frightened by an unexpected cancer diagnosis, complicated by a serious pre-existing medical condition. I knew I needed care that could fully take into account my complex medical reality, and my previous experiences within the conventional medical system had not provided that level of support. I was immediately reassured and comforted by the integrative approach taken by Dr. Parmar and his team.

As someone with a research background, I was impressed by the evidence-based treatment plan that was proposed. By diligently following Dr. Parmar’s recommendations, I have had a successful journey so far and, in many ways, I am actually feeling better than I did even before my cancer diagnosis.

In my experience, while the conventional medical system offers important interventions for cancer patients, it often underappreciates the value of complementary therapies and therefore does not consistently recommend or support them. As a result, patients may miss out on approaches that could improve outcomes and quality of life.

In addressing this gap, I was delighted to learn of the collaboration between PRISM Foundation and IHC and to be invited to participate as a patient partner on a current research project.

As a patient partner, I have observed firsthand the team’s strong commitment to high-quality, meaningful research. I have also been impressed by their efforts to build a research program with integrity, longevity, and the capacity to collaborate with conventional healthcare and research systems. It is incredibly meaningful to be part of something that brings purpose to my cancer journey.
